Projected capacitive (PCAP) touch is one of the most popular technologies for creating touch applications such as kiosk systems, notebooks and HMI systems. PCAP touch technology is based on capacitive sensitivity and provides fast, accurate and simultaneous multi-touch detection. PCAP touch sensors consist of one or two layers of resistive material, which allows for an x-axis and a y-axis measurement. This is translated into a position on the display screen.
PCAP multitouch technology is plug-and-play compatible with Windows 7 and Windows 8 and provides specific touch functionality such as pinch (zoom in), stretching (zoom out), sweep (left, down, up, right and sideways) and rotation. The correct drivers are generally available for many other operating systems such as Mac, Linux and Android.
The PCAP touch sensor senses the resistance measurement through materials (cover), which allows for the placement of protective materials such as glass and plastic in front of the sensor. The cover may vary in thickness and may be equipped with printing or anti-reflection coating, so that we can create a variety of custom-made touch applications.Among its many applications, PCAP touch technology is used in popular products like the iPad, iPhone, and other tablets and smartphones.
Custom touch screens
Dytos specialises in putting together customised touch solutions. With our years of experience with PCAP touch technology, we can advise you in choosing the right cover and the appropriate sensor. We also have the knowledge and the tools needed to fully harmonise the touch sensor with, and integrate into, your application.
PCAP film sensors are made of two layers of conductive film with an insulator in between. On top of the sensor is a transparent adhesive layer (OCA), using which the sensor can be easily mounted on the cover lens. Film sensors are lightweight and easy to use.
Depending on their size, film sensors can register 2, 10, or up to 40 simultaneous touch points. Film sensors are used in, among other things, industrial applications, kiosk systems, phones and tablets.
Dytos offers a comprehensive range of 3” to 100” standard film sensors.
GP-touch is the new series of projected capacitive touch screens by Dytos. GP-touch is a double-sided ITO (or DITO for short) glass sensor with gold plated conductive lines. This production method ensures highly accurate sensors with narrow conductive edges.
GP-touch sensors are more resistant to weathering and have a longer life. The sensors meet the highest quality requirements and are especially suitable for the automotive industry and medical applications.
One of the main components of a touch screen is the cover. Due to its visual prominence, the cover to a large extent defines the appearance of the product. It also has the important function of protecting the display and the touch sensor.
Glass is the most commonly used material for covers. Depending on the type of PCAP sensor, the cover glass may vary in thickness from 1 to 10 millimetres. In order to make the glass more solid, it can be treated in different ways. With thinner glass of 1 to 3 millimetres, the glass is often reinforced by a chemical treatment. With thicker glass of 3 to 10 millimetres, the glass is often reinforced by thermal treatment (heating).
The cover glass can be given beautiful finished edges, such as a C-profile or facet ground. We can also give it rounded corners and holes or cutouts for the installation of motion detectors, microphones, cameras and the like. If required, we can also print the cover. Where we don’t build this behind a protective edge (bezel), we often print a black border around it, in order to keep the outer edge of the touch sensor out of sight. We can also print extra add-ons in multiple colours, such as logos, buttons and instructions.
We can give the glass various types of anti-reflective coatings and anti-fingerprint coating. Besides glass, we can also use plastic such as polycarbonate. This is often used for special cover shapes or for vandalism-resistant applications. Polycarbonate can range in thickness from 2 to 4 millimetres, and can also be given anti-reflective coatings.
As you can see, there are many options in choosing the right cover. Dytos will be happy to help you with advice and can deliver all types quickly and in small quantities.
